WORK QUALIFICATIONS: Alyssa worked as a Licensed Appraisers Assistant from July 2006 to June of 2008. During that time she acquired 2172 hours of field and office experience. Relevant duties included determining scope of work, estimating highest and best use, site valuation, searching for comparable properties, researching neighborhoods, using Marshall & Swift Cost Estimator, compiling reports, measuring residences, collection and selection of relevant data and picture taking. She became a State Licensed Appraiser on November 18th, 2008. I am currently working towards 2500 hours to sit for the Certification Exam.
EDUCATION: Education included 150 class room hours of approved appraisal education courses from The American College of Real Estate & Appraisal, Pro Schools, McKissock and Appraisal & Real Estate School of Oregon. In addition to her appraisal education, she attended Southern Oregon University from 1997 to 1999. Relevant courses studied there included Business English, Business Math, Statistics, Business Communication, Technical Research Writing and Environmental Issues of Oregon.
VIEWS ON APPRAISING: "Real Property Appraising is extremely challenging. Many people don't realize exactly how complicated the processes are in determining values. There is a false assumption amongst some that all you do is take pictures and come up with a number. That couldn't be further from the truth. There is a lot of time and research involved in each assignment (ie. researching an entire neighborhood), it can be mentally exhausting. I balance the intense mental focus with a lot of outdoor activities and exercise. But it is exactly for these challenging reasons that I enjoy it so much. Each property has its own set of unique characteristics and problems. It's like solving a puzzle!"
LIFE EXPERIENCE: Alyssa moved to the Rogue Valley from California when she was four years old. In 1980 her family built and founded The Green Springs Inn in Ashland, Oregon. It was there that she developed a strong work ethic and her dedication to customer service. "I started washing dishes, then waiting tables and finally became a cook. If I wasn't working at the restaurant I was riding motorcycles, horses or spending time at Hyatt Lake with my best friend. When you grow up in the mountains you have to create fun. We were real daredevils but lived to tell about it!" She continued on as head cook at the restaurant (even after her family's sale of the business) until 1995. After moving about the country, attending different colleges and holding a variety of jobs along the way, she moved back to the Rogue Valley in 1997. Having spent most of her life in Southern Oregon brings familiarity with many of the cities in Jackson County. "I love the Rogue Valley, I think its beautiful here. Not only are my friends and family here, the mountains feel like home as well. I enjoy skiing, snowboarding, hiking, swimming and having good times with family and friends. We are within a days drive to the big cities and the ocean. We've got it all here. It's a great place to live."
PERSONAL VIEWS: "I am motivated, optimistic and not afraid of hard work. I enjoy people, discovering new ideas and places. I'm respectful and devoted to the people, places and causes that I love. I approach each situation in my life with the best of my knowledge and capabilities. I realize that life is a constant learning process and I welcome it with open arms. I think that happiness comes from listening to yourself and trusting that you have the courage to try to attain your dreams."
